William Patten, oldest son of James M. and Elizabeth (Lee) Patten (Vol. 1), was born in Irwin, now Lanier County, November 3, 1820. He was married May 4, 1845 to Elizabeth, daughter of Samuel Register (Vol. 1). She was born in Lowndes, now Lanier County, August 31, 1828. To Mr. and Mrs. Patten were born twelve children:

1. Jared Irwinb. February 15, 1846, m. Loanna Patten, daughter of Jethro 1st cousin).
2. Lewis C.b. October 11, 1847, never m. Died September 18, 1890.
3. William C.b. December 28, 1849, m. (1) Sarah Lee (2) Laura Watson.
4. George W. L.b. April 21, 1852. Died August 8, 1864.
5. Henry R.b. April 17, 1854, died single, November 23, 1873.
6. Sylvester M.b. May 15, 1856, m. Eliza Watson.
7. Elizabeth Rowenab. June 27, 1858, m. Levi J. Clements.
8. Samuel Registerb. July 8, 1860, m. (1) Laura Curry, daughter of CharlesW. (2) Matilda Patten, daughter of M. E.

Mr. Patten was baptized into Union Primitive Baptist Church September 9, 1848, and was dismissed by letter March 11, 1854, to unite with others in organizing Empire Church nearer his home. He died a member of Empire Church. He was ordained to the ministry by Empire Church and served several churches in Clinch and Berrien Counties as pastor.

Mr. Patten in 1865 became a member of the Masonic fraternity, receiving his degrees in the old Butler Lodge No. 211 at Milltown (now called Lakeland). He was demitted September 18, 1880, and on account of the attitude of his church towards Masonry, never affiliated with a lodge afterwards.
William Patten was Justice of Peace in the 664th district, Lowndes County, 1845-1848, 1849-1856. In the latter year, he was cut out of Lowndes into Berrien County and was immediately elected to the same office (J. P.) in the newly formed 1144th district, serving 1856-1869. Then later, when the 1300th district was formed, he held the same office in it, 1889-1893.

Mr. Patten died September 16, 1907, and his wife died March 2, 1916. They were buried at Union Church.

William Patterson was born in North Carolina, a son of Daniel Patterson, R.S., He and his brother, Daniel, left Robeson county as young men and came to South Georgia, locating in Appling county where they married. William Patterson in 1829 was married to Nancy Reddish, born 1811 in Tattnall county, daughter of Drew Reddish (Vol. II). They had seven children, viz:

2. Arabellab. 1833, m. Isham Tyre.
3. Sarahb. 1835, m. Alfred Lightsey.
4. Ishamb. 1838, m. Nancy Morgan, dau. of Thomas.
5. Solomonb. 1841, m. Sarah E. Surrency, dau. of A. P.
6. Abrahamb. 1843, m. Mary Jane Howard, dau. of Allen.
7. Elizabethb. 1845, m. Alfred Davis, Jan. 25, 1885.

William Patterson died intestate in Appling county about 1849. Isham Reddish, his brother-in-law, was appointed guardian of the minor heirs. Mrs. Patterson died about 1890. She and her husband were buried in the Millikin cemetery near Odum, Ga. They were members of the Bethel Methodist Church in Appling county.
