Archibald David Carroll, enlisted 4 Feb 1863 in Company K, 63rd Regiment of the Confederate States of America, as a substitute for William Rutherford per Vol. # 8 of the Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia. He is also listed in Vol. # 1 of the History of Pierce County, Georgia.

CARROLL, JamesJAMES CARROLL was born March 6, 1801, in North Carolina. In company with others from the vicinity of Durham, North Carolina, James Carroll and his brother Jesse removed to what was then Lowndes County, Georgia in 1848, and bought lands near the village of Milltown (now Lakeland) in present Lanier County.

Mr. Carroll was twice married. His first wife, Elizabeth, was born in North Carolina, December 25, 1806. She died at Milltown, November 10, 1864. He was married May 28, 1865, at Thomasville, to Mrs. Sophronia E. Raneau, nee Chastain, widow of Russell Raneau of Thomasville. By her one child was born, Bessie who married ______ May of Thomas County. The children by the first marriage were:
1. John T.b. 1824, m. Catherine Maria Lamb, daughter of William.
2. James Henryb. 1827, m. Catherine Huffam, of North Carolina.
3. Daniel B.b. 1829, m. Theresa Harris, daughter of Moses S.
4. William Josephb. 1831.
5. Ellzabeth Annb. 1832, m. James S. Harris, brother to Theresa.
6. Martha J.b. 1834, died single.
7. Charity Mariab. 1837, in. Andrew J. Liles.
8. Edwin B.b. 1839, m. Julia Chastain, daughter of John.
9. Margaret U.b. 1841, m. Elijah Carter, son of Samuel.
10. David F.b. 1845, killed in C.S.A.
11. George W.b. 1848, died in boyhood.
Sometime during the 1860's, James Carroll moved from his plantation near Milltown, to the village of Stockton, then Clinch County, and lived there until 1867. He moved back and bought a home in Milltown, where he was living when he died September 25, 1869. He had gone to Valdosta on business and had a heart attack in the law office of Peeples & Liles, and expired within a few minutes. He was buried in the old town cemetery at Milltown (now Lakeland), where his first wife was buried.
Mr. Carroll was a member of the Milltown Baptist Church, and his son, Edwin B., became a very prominent Baptist pastor in Georgia. Mr. Carroll was also a member of the Masonic order, and his membership was in the old Butler Lodge No. 211 at Milltown. He died a member.
