LOWNDES
JAMES HENRY CARROLL, son of James and Elizabeth, was born in North Carolina in 1827, and was married in that state to Miss Sarah Catherine Huffman, born 1822. In company with his father, his uncle, Jesse Carroll, and his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. William Lamb, and others of the family connection, in 1848 he came to Milltown, Georgia, then in Lowndes County (but which was cut off into Berrien County in 1856). There he was living when the Civil War came on, and he volunteered in company "K", 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment, September 1st, 1861, which company was organized at Milltown when the first call for troops went out. Mr. Carroll was elected first lieutenant, and he served throughout the war.
About 1880, Mr. Carroll moved from Milltown to Ousley, Lowndes County, where he engaged in truck-farming. He died there June 29, 1883. His widow died there about five years later. Both are buried in the Ousley Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Carroll and his wife were both members of the Baptist Church, first at Milltown, then at Ousley. Their children were:

3. Ogden Huffmanb. 1852, m. Mattie Elizabeth Overstreet.
4. Eglon R.b. 1854, died at Ousley, 1894. Never married.
5. James H.b. 1856, m. Kate Selman, January 30, 1896.
6. Charles E.b. 1958, m. Ora______. Died Kissimmee, Florida., 1940.
7. Thomas 0.b. 1860, never married; died at Ousley, 1882.
8. Oriannab. 1862, m. James E. Jessup, 1883; died 1906.
James Henry Carroll was a member of the Masonic order, receiving his degrees in St. John the Baptist Lodge No. 184, at old Troupville, in 1854. He was demitted in 1857 and became a charter member of Butler Lodge No. 211 at Milltown the same year. He was lodge secretary in 1865, and treasurer, 1868-1879. He was demitted July 31, 1880, became a member of the lodge at Ousley, and died a member there.
