In 1868, Mr. Howell moved to Stockton, Clinch (now Lanier) County, where he entered the general merchandise business. Later he established a naval stores business at Withers, Clinch County, and then became a partner with W. B. N. Crews under the name of Crews & Howell in the naval stores business. This business continued some several years, during which time Mr. Howell continued with his mercantile business in Stockton. About 1888, he sold out his business interests in and around Stockton to Dr. Peter Stotesbury and moved to Lake Park, Ga. His first wife died while living at Lake Park, Sept. 13, 1901.

William "Owen" Crews, aged 69 years, died at his home in Taylor Sunday morning after an illness of about twenty-one months. Mr Crews illness had been serious for several ---- and there was no hope left for his recovery.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Julia Crews, two brothers, John J. Crews of Macclenny and Berry Crews of Moniac, Ga. and three sisters, Mrs. Sara Crews, Mrs. Mattie Raulerson and Miss S? Crews of St. George, Ga. The burial was at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Monday W.R. Rhoden and W.A. Simmons officiating. Mr. Crews body is the first to be buried at this church and this was done at his special request near two oak trees where he hitched his horse to a swinging limb when attending services there.
Mr. Crews was a native of Baker County and a citizen who had a host of friends won by his jovial disposition and upright character.
Mr. J.J. Crews, brother of the deceased, desires to thank one and all for favors of all kind, for the beautiful floral offerings, donations and other acts of sympathy.
