Archibald Hogan was born in North Carolina in 1800. His father was a Revolutionary soldier and his mother, Frances Hogan, drew land as the widow of a Revolutionary Soldier in the 1827 Georgia land lottery, residing at the time in Appling County. She afterwards returned to their old home in Macon County, N.C. Archibald Hogan was married in Wayne County, July 28, 1824, to Zilpha Roberts, born 1803, daughter of Richard Roberts, R.S. To them were born ten children:

Archibald Hogan moved about 1835 from Wayne County to what was then Columbia Co., Fla., now Baker County, and located on the St. Marys River. He was living there in August, 1840, when the Indians attacked his home where several settlers had fled for protection, several being killed in the attack. Fort Moniac across the river from him, had been built during the Indian War about two years before.

Mr. Hogan died about 1847, and his widow and children moved further southward into present Columbia County. She died after 1850. He served in Capt. Daniel N. Cone's company of Georgia militia in 1838 in the Indian War.

Greenberry Holt was born in Pulaski County (now Dooly), Nov. 1, 1832, oldest child of James and Mary Pate Holt. his parents were married in Pulaski County, Jan. 12, 1832, and his mother was a daughter of Rev. William Pate, R.S. Greenberry Holt came to Clinch County to live, and there met and in 1857 married Celia Mathis, daughter of Tyre Mathis (VoI.II). She was born Jan. 14, 1831 near present Lakeland in what was then Lowndes County. To them was born only one daughter, Elizabeth, born Aug. 30, 1860, married Joseph P. Smith; she died Aug. 27, 1907.

Mr. Holt enlisted in the Confederate Army as a volunteer in 1861 in Co. "K", 26th Georgia Volunteer Regiment, and died of pneumonia in a military hospital in Savannah in July, 1863. His body was brought home and buried at Prospect Church. Mrs. Holt survived over forty years and died at the home of her daughter, Dec. lst, 1906. She was buried at Bethany Church, Clinch County.

Mr. and Mrs. Holt were members of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was baptized into Prospect Church, Dec. 3, 1859, and died a member. She was baptized into the some church, Nov. 5, 1859, and died a member.
