Notes
General:
evi J. Johns was born in 1806 in Camden Co Ga, and he married Mary Kelly, 24 Dec 1828, dau. of William Kelly, in Camden Cty. He was trustee 1830-1831 for the 2 orphans of Elizabeth Johns (who had married John Crews 17Jul 1830) being about to move out of state 1831 was allowed to turn over their property to their mother(from minutes Camden Cty Inf. Court minutes)
Son of Jeremiah and Levicy Johns of Beaufort District, SC. See Huxford.
Enum. in Columbia Co. Fl 1840 census between 30-40 years old with one boy and
one girl under 5, & one boy 5-10; NO WIFE listed. Enum. in 1850 Alachua Co Fl
census as 44 year old farmer, b. GA, illiterate w/wife Mary 31 and 9 Children, 3 of the same age, so this indicates the 2 orphans of Elizabeth by John Crews.

Mary Kelly Johns is enumerated 1840,1850, and 1860 Alachua FL census. Source-HuxNotes. (I have to wonder about this 1840 ref. since only Heads of Household were listed prior to 1850.)
Enum. in 1850 Alachua Co Fl census as 31 year old wife, b. Fl, illiterate, w/ 9
children, although 3 were same age (custodians?).

From 1860 Alachua Co census - 12 29 Johns Mary A. 40 Fla pg00001.txt - from 1860 Alachua Fl census, thus born abt 1819.
There is a Levi J., age 19, on the same page. This must be a son named after the missing father.

The Georgia Genealogical Magazine,
"Levi and Jacob Johns, minors over 14 years of age, chose John Lee as their guardian; and he was also appointed guardian for Archibald and Jeremiah Johns, minors under age of 14."
I didn't copy the previous page, but the following date is Dec. 4, 1824.
"MINUTES, June 3, 1828: Justices Gibson, Brown Chappelle, presiding.
John Lee, Guardian of the orphans of Levi Johns, dec'd, applied for a
division of their estate betwen them consisting of a stock of cattle. James Lloyd, Jesse Mizell, and Joseph Howell were named Com'rs to make the division"
"MINUTES, Jan. 5, 1830: Justices Gibson, Deloney, Brown, presiding....
The return of Com'rs to divide cattle between the orphans of Levi Johns was received and adopted. The return shows each orphan received 28 head of cattle, by lot, the orphans being Jacob, Levi, Archibald and Jeremiah Johns."
These are 4 brothers, the children of Levi Johns, and their sister is
Averilla. Jeremiah, at least, stayed in Hamilton Co. He is buried in
Prospect Cemetery.

Notes
General:
JOHNS, LEVI1780-1920 CAMDEN

Levi Johns was born in Beaufort District, South Carolina, about 1779-83, a son of Jeremiah and Levicy Johns. The parents moved, around 1800, to Camden County, Georgia, accompanied by most of their grown, married children and their families. Levi Johns' wife's name cannot be learned, but was thought to be Keziah, maiden name unknown. They had the following children:

1. Averillab. 1804, m. John Lee (Vol.Vl).
2. Levi, Jr.b. 1806, m. Mary Kelly, 12/14/1823. dau. of Wm.
3. Amyb. 1808, m. Joseph Crews, 2/10/1825.
4. Jacobb. 1807, m. Elizabeth Stafford, 12/21/1826.
5. Archibaldb. 1812, m. unknown.
6. Jeremiah E.b. c1816, m. Louisa ???????.

Levi Johns apparently died in the prime of life, about 1820. Camden estate records show that John Lee was appointed June 7, 1824, as guardian of Levi, Jr. and Jacob Johns, orphans of Levi Johns under the age of 14. These orphans had registered to participate in the 1821 land lottery, and drew lot 91, 9th district of Monroe County. On June 6, 1825, the guardian was granted leave to sell that lot of land at public sale. Most of this family moved to Florida. Levi Johns, Jr., moved to Alachua County, Florida, where he appears in the 1840 and 1850 censuses. John Lee and family moved to Hamilton County, Florida, about 1830. Later Archibald also moved to Florida. The son, Jeremiah E. Johns, lived in Wayne County. He served in the Confederate Army, and was a Corporal and later 2nd Sgt. in Company "A", 50th Georgia Regiment, and died in the service, January 25, 1865. The son, Jacob, died in Camden County in 1829, leaving two small children. His widow Elizabeth married John Crews, July 15, 1830. Stephen Crews and family also moved to Florida.
