George Johns and family moved to Wayne Cty Ga about 1815, with his parents and soon after moved to Camden County GA. He united with High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church 14 Oct 1823 and was baptized. The church records show he was expelled 8 Dec 1827 for drunkeness and swearing. He served in the Indian War as a private in Capt. Henry E.W. Clark's company of Camden County militia, 24 Sep 1840 to 29 May 1841, and was granted bounty land for his service in 1851. Mr. Johns lived in Camden Cty until 1854 when Charlton Cty was created mostly out of Camden, being cut into the new county. His home was in the present St. George section of the county and not far from the St. Mary's River. His wife died there about 1858, and in the 1860 census he and his bachelor son George Jr. were living alone. He died about 1867, and was buried
next to his wife in the old cemetary near Moniac. (From Huxford's Wiregrass Chronicles)In 1830 Camden Ga census w/wife, both 30-40, 8 children. Baker Co. Fl probate record shows Calvin Johns as agent for George re 116 acre estate. 1874 probate shows Calvin with 116 acres, estate of George 95 acres.
