James North, a son of Capt. John J. North (Vol. 1), was born in Wayne County, October 1815. He came with his parents to what was then Ware County, and was married there in 1837 to Margaret, oldest of the children of James W. and Mary Whiddon who soon after moved to Hamilton County, Florida. She was born January 18, 1819, in Tattnall County. She died about 1846, leaving five small children. Mr. North then married Nancy, born 1822 in Wayne County, daughter of Stephen Crews (Vol. 1). By her five children were born. The ten children were as follows:

Mr. North lived in the 719th district of what was then Ware County, his home being on the Suwannee River in present Echols County not far from his father's. (Territory cut into Clinch County 1850, and into Echols 1858). In 1856, he sold out there and moved to the 1141st district of Clinch County. He first settled on Lot of land 311 in the 12th land district which he bought in 1856 from W. M. Nichols. He lived there until 1867 when he acquired lot of land 454, same district, and moved there, built a home and farmed there until his death October 8, 1884.
Mr. North served in his father's militia company in 1842 in patrolling the Florida line during the Indian War in Florida. He was Justice of Peace in the 719th district, Clinch County, 1850-1856. When he moved to his new home in the 1141st district referred to above, he was immediately elected to the same office there in the first election for the office (the district having been created that year out of 719th). He served 1856-1858 and again 1861-1865.
Mr. North and his second wife were baptized into the membership of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in what was then Clinch but now Echols County. He was baptized August 9, 1856, and she on March 10, 1861. They were dismissed by letter March 9, 1876, and became charter members of the newly organized Ramah Church much nearer their home April 15, 1876. They died members of that church and were buried there. The first wife was buried at Bethel Church; grave unmarked.
