Parnell (or Purnall) Cason was born about 1820 in Bryan County, son of Willoughby and Mary Connor Cason (Vol. VI). He came with his parents when they moved to Ware County in his boyhood, and lived there until 1838 when he went to Hamilton County, Fla., to live. He was married there the same year on Dec. 20, 1838, to Elizabeth Beal, a daughter of Henry Beal. Born to them were ten children, viz:

1. James R.b. Mar. 28,1840,killed in battle of Seven Pines, Va. May 30,1862.

4. Wherry C.b. May 16,1847,m. Martha Jane Sandlin, Oct. 15, 1867.
5. Quintteen (girl)b. May 14,1849,m. John Harvey of Baker Co., Fla.

10. Oscar Parnellb. Aug. 19,1863,m. Eliza Roberts, 1881. Killed by Zack Wiggins.

Mr. Cason during his stay in Ware County, Georgia, served in the Indian War as a private in Capt. James Walker's Company of Ware County militia, June 9th to Aug. 19, 1838. He served in the Civil War in Co. "B", ist Florida Infantry Reserves, 1864-5. He lived in the Prospect Church community of Hamilton County and he and his wife were members of that church. His uncle, Willis Cason (Vol. V) was one of the founders and leaders in the church. In 1856, he sold out his holdings near Prospect Church and moved to a farm which he had bought located in the Benton community of northeast Columbia County, only a few miles from where he had formerly lived. He died there in 1891, and his wife died soon after. They were buried in a family cemetery known as the Cason-Green Harrington burying ground on his old homeplace. Their graves were marked but the stones have disappeared.

Parnell Cason's step-mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Handley-Yarbrough Cason later married Henry Beal, thus making Parnell and his wife to have the same step-mother.
