Notes
General:
Hillery Cason

"Hillery Cason was born in 1737 in Beaufort County, North Carolina in the part that was cut into Pitt County in 1761. Mr. Cason was the youngest son of William and Jane Cason. His mother was a daughter of Edward and Sarah Dauley Cannon. Sarah was a daughter of Dennis Dauley of Princess Ann County, Virginia.

Hillery Cason is identified as a son of William Cason by a deed gift from William to his sons, Henry and Hillery and his daughter Elizabeth (or Betty) in 1758 in Beaufort County, North Carolina.

Mr. Cason's wife was named Sarah, maiden name unknown, but there is evidence she was a Barrow.

Hillery Cason was on the Pitt Safety Committee and fought the American Revolution on the North Carolina line.
In late 1872, with others of the family connection, Mr. Cason moved to Effingham County, GA, and settled on the Ogeechee River. By the spring of 1794, he was living in Screven County, GA where he seems to have lived until his death. He died in 1810. Sarah, his wife, was living with her youngest son, Willoughby, in Bryan County in 1820.
Hillery Cason was the father of nine known children. In addition to these, there may have been two or three more daughters. Also, Cannon Cason of Tattnall, Lowndes and Thomas counties may have been a son or nephew.

The sons, Dennis and Hillery Jr., moved to Madison County, Illinois in 1829 and, later to Independence County, Arkansas. Both had large families. The descendants of Dennis Cason through his son Silas have a letter written by Dennis to Silas telling how to get to Illinois, and where they camped each night along the way.

Gabriel lived in Wayne and Ware Counties, and later, to Columbia County, Florida. Wyriott lived in Jefferson County Georgia, where he was a justice of the peace. Frederick lived in Ware County, where he died in 1840. Willis moved from Screven to Bryan to Ware Counties in Georgia to Hamilton County, Florida, where he died in October of 1849. Willoughby died in Charlton County in 1856. William was in Ware County in 1827, but nothing further is known of him. The daughter, Jane Cone, died, as thought, in Bryan County about 1825.

After Hillery's death, his wife, Sarah, and the two youngest sons, Willis and Willoughby, returned to their old home in Pitt County, NC, where she bought land from Hillery's brother, Henry. In 1813, she sold the property back to Henry and returned to Georgia with her two sons. She is thought to be the older female living with Willoughby Cason in Bryan County, GA in the 1820 census. She apparently died between 1820 and 1830.
