William Monk, a son of William and Jerushia (Parrish) Monk (see Vol. 1), was born in Bulloch County May 18, 1809, and died at his home in Worth County, September 24, 1855. He was married in 1828 to Miss Ailey Dampier, a daughter of John Dampier (see Vol. 1). She was born May 14, 1807 and died at her home in Worth County January 24,1886. To Mr. and Mrs. Monk were born:

3. Martha Annb. 1835, m. Daniel S. Sumner February 18, 1853.
4. Hiramb. 1838, never m.

6. Johnb. 1841, died single in C. S. Army.

William Monk was a private in the Indian War in Capt. Hamilton W. Sharpe's volunteer troop of Lowndes County militia. Soon after marriage, he and his wife moved to the Seventh land district of what was then Irwin County, acquired lands there, built a home, cleared up a large farm, and lived there until his death. A year before he died, he was cut into the new County of Worth out of Irwin.
Mr. and Mrs. Monk are buried on their old home place, five miles south of the present town of Poulan. The property is now owned by a grandson, Judge C. W. Monk of Sylvester.
