Charlton County Historical Notes 1972. I've found a few errors in this book so there may be errors in this section, too. It may take me awhile to type all of it but I'll try to get it all soon. Jerry Francis Crews was born in North Carolina 2-14-1824. He migrated to Georgia around 1845 and settled in Charlton County near the little Okefenokee Swamp, 5 miles Southeast of Winokur, Georgia. He married Sarah Ann Johns and they had ten Children: Jesse, Chrisie, Mary, Martha, Sibbie, Lylie, Jean, Archie, Mose and Jerry. Jerry, the youngest son, better known as Tye Crews, married Mary Crews, daughter of Bryant C. Crews and Nancy Johns. Their children were Jack, Irvin, Minnie, Nancy, Ivey and Francis. Jack Crews married Mary Crews, daughter of Lewis and Ollie Crews and their children were Georgiann, Minnie, J.W. and Maude. Irvin, Francis, Minnie and Nancy were never married. They lived with their mother on the old homestead and raised cows, hogs, farmed and naval stores. After the death of their mother, they continued to operate the farm until one by one they departed this life. Ivey Buddy Crews married Mary Jane Barber, daughter of Hattie O'Berry. Buddy operated a small farm, raised livestock and worked turpentine to support his ten children. Sometimes the going was tough but there was always something to eat, a little to wear. There was always work to be done and each one, as he grew up, carried his share of the load. Around 1940, he started driving the school bus on the Winokur route for $30.00 a month. This was and ideal job for him for he loved children. As long as one didn't make the others cry, the noise was music to his ears. He drove the bus for 17 years, resigning in 1958 die to ill health. He died at home on Sept. 7th, 1960.

I've got a few notes on the John Crews who married Lucy Hardwick (see below). It might be worth your while to check out the Thomas Bell book as she covered a great many North Carolina Crews in her book
Thomas Bell, an Ulster Scot by Rufie Lee Williams
John was b. Bedford Co., Va.; m. Jan 26, 1795 to Lucy Hardwick in Bedford Co; d. Henry Co., Va. (War of 1812)
Based on the Book "Thomas Bell: Ulster Scot to South Carolina and Allied Families" pages 406-407. John Crews is the son of David Crews and Ann McGHEA (Annie McGee). John was born in Bedford County, VA m. 26 Jan 1795, Bedford County, VA., Lucy Hardwick, (John) d. Henry County, VA (War of 1812). No children listed.(So judging by this statement, John died during the War of 1812 as a resident of Henry County, VA)
So... it appears this couple never left Virginia and never set foot in South Carolina. In fact, the couple moved further west within VA not south (Bedford to Henry)
Mentioned in his father's will dated May 12, 1819 as being deceased.
"Metes & Bounds" says his parents left Hanover for Bedford before 1767. "Bell" says he served in Ky. in Revolutionary war in 1777 and sent for his wife in 1779. I am assuming if child is born before 1766 they were born in Hanover; 1767-1778 born in Bedford and after 1779 born in Ky. Problem is with no records their birth dates could be off 10 or more years.
