General:
Franklin (aka Francis) Corbett was born July 23, 1825 in Hanover County, North Carolina, a son of George and Sophie Sutton Corbett (1). Folks Huxford erroneously identified his parents as George's brother James and his wife Amanda (2). In fact, Mr Huxford made many mistakes on this Corbett family. Francis married about 1851 to Winnie Stuart, born 1826 (1) a daughter of James T. Stewart. Franklin and Winnie had the following eight children; all born in Georgia (1) (4):
Sarah E. b. Jan. 18,1852, d. Mar 12, 1929 m. Allen W. Carter about 1869
Martha Ann b. Aug. 31, 1854, d. May 14, 1932 never married

Frank's father George is not found in the 1840 census for Stewart County, however George's brother James and his family were enumerated here.
Franklin was enumerated in the home of his father, George and sister, Sarah, during the 1850 US Census for Stewart County, Georgia (6). These three are found living next to Frank's cousin Washington and his wife Amanda. Residing in the dwelling next to Washington and Amanda are Frank's uncle (George's brother) James Corbett, wife Susan and their six children.
Franklin Corbett relocated from Stewart County during the 1850s and is found as a farmer and a married man in the 1860 Census of Echols County. The Corbett family resides in the 1211 Georgia Militia District. This Population Schedule lists the family thusly; Francis 31, August (Winnie) age 29, Sarah E age 8, Martha age 6, Roxyann age 4, Mary Jane age 2, and Harriet age 6 months. His land is valued was $1500 and personal assets were $400 (4).
Franklin was a founding member and appears as a clerk of the Sardis Baptist Church on April 13, 1862 having received his letter from Corinth church. Franklin's signature appears on the original church constitution with brother George among others (3) (8).
Frank is listed in the 1864 Census for Re-organizing the Georgia Militia as living in Echols County, 6th Senatorial District - 1211th Militia District. He listing is: Corbitt, Franklin, 36 yrs.6 mons., Farmer, b. NC. (7)

General:
Harriet (Heart) Amanda Corbett is the daughter of Franklin Corbett and Winnie Stuart Corbett. Since so many people called her Heart, that name was chosen for her stone. Her other nicknames included Manda and Mink. "Heart" expressed how people felt about her, and one can imagine a small child trying to say "Harriet" and coming out with "Heart". Harriet attended the Primitive Baptist Church.
The family is indebted to her youngest daughter, Sarah DeLoach Padgett, who wrote her parents' and grandparents' names and dates in a very small notebook. Amanda and Ebenezer's first child was William Riley DeLoach. Alice and Indiana soon followed. Amanda had a difficult time in the later births.
In the birth of the last child, Amanda suffered 62 convulsions. Although she did survive, she had to be cared for in the home of her sister Martha. She did not let the remaining difficulties deter her from visiting and getting to know each grandchild as each was born. She writes her daughter Alice Webb in 1909, "Dear Daughter: ...Say, is your husband related to any of the Webbs in Hahira, Georgia? The one I have reference to is Miss Lizzie Webb." Heart Amanda loved her family and was well loved by family. She told her granddaughter Amanda Webb that the name they shared came from her grandmother, Amanda Lee (wife of James Corbett-b.1797; d. 1886).

James Corbett
James Corbett was born in New Hanover County NC about 1800. Nothing is known as to the names of his parents, though the Chinkypin speculates his father as Thomas Corbett, Jr. He was married three times with the first marriage occurring before 1825. James first wife was said to be Mary Elizabeth Peterson who died before 1845. The second wife was Susan Corbett, which he married Jan. 9, 1845. The third wife was Mary Carter, married 1861. The 1850 census for Stewart County, GA listed James wife as Susan. Susan also appears in the Lowndes County census of 1860 as his wife.
James and Mary Elizabeth had the following children:
1. Franklinb. 1825 m. Winnie Stuart.
2. George W.b. 1830, m. Elizabeth Carter dau. of Jesse
3. James T.b. Oct. 2, 1831, m. Jane Elizabeth Zipperer dau. of Theophilis on Dec 1, 1853.
4. Williamb. 1833, m. Caroline Prosser, b. 1836 d. 1918, dau. of William H.
5. Eliza Annb. Dec. 16, 1836, d. Dec. 15, 1904, m. Chas Zipperer, Oct. 6, 1853.
6. Mary E.b. Oct. 4, 1838, m. Samuel H. Zipperer, Nov. 9, 1857
7. John B.b. Apr. 1, 1841, d. Jan. 8, 1919, m. Sarah Adeline Carter, dau. of Obedience.
James Corbett moved to Georgia in the 1830s and settled in Lowndes County On July 14, 1858 James Corbett Sr. purchased land from Peter McLeod, which bordered Mud Swamp. Two acres of that purchase were excluded for the Hickory Grove Church.
On May 3, 1859, three acres of land were purchased from James Thomas Corbett, Sr. for the building of the Corinth Baptist Church, in Land Lot 30, 16th Land District. The three trustees who purchased this land were Benjamin Limeburger, Edward McLeod and James Corbett, Sr.
By 1870, the Lowndes County census shows James' (70) wife as Mary Carter (35), daughter of John Carter and sister to Martin T. Carter Sr. as well as Allen Carter. His land is valued at $2000.
The 1880 census for Lowndes County indicates James is 83 years of age and occupation as a farmer. The same census lists wife Mary as 54 years of age. Also enumerated in the household was John Peterson listed as brother. He likely was a brother-in-law as his wife was a Peterson and brother brother Timothy married a Peterson.
It has been told that James was a very thoughtful person. He always asked if one could pay for his seed corn. If the answer was yes they were informed to go elsewhere. His extra corn was given to widows and the poorer families in the area.
James passed away on September 17, 1886 and was buried at Corinth Baptist Church in Lowndes County. He served briefly in the Indian War, being a private in Capt. John Bryan's company of Florida Militia, Aug. 16th to Sept. 15th, 1840. He and his wife were members of Corinth Baptist Church.
Mr. Corbett's third wife, Mary Carter, born 1828, had no children with James. She survived him by about twenty-five years."
