The widow and children moved then to Ware County, and it was there that Richard Bennett, who had grown to manhood, met and married Miss Mary McDonald, a daughter of Dr. Randall McDonald (see Vol. 1.). She was born in Tattnall County, October 27, 1818, and died November 20, 1897. To them were born fourteen children:

Soon after marriage Mr. Bennett acquired lands in the 7th district of Ware and cleared up a farm. With slave labor and some free labor, he built a long dam and formed a big lake of water on his lands, and installed a gristmill and other machinery which was run by water power. This property is now on the Pearson-Homerville highway and is known as Guest Millpond. About 1852 he sold this property out to Duncan Giddens and moved to a new location on Red Bluff Creek several miles north of his former home. Red Bluff Creek flows through this millpond northWardly and empties into the Satilla River. He cleared up a large plantation and installed a water mill on the creek close by his new residence. And there he lived and farmed and operated his water mill until his death March 27, 1896. The last six years of his life he leased most of his farm to C. Huxford who erected a turpentine still there. After Mr. Bennett's death, the Bennett holdings consisting of about 2,500 acres, passed to Mr. Huxford who bought it from J. C. L. Bennett, the Administrator of the Richard Bennett estate. **
The Brunswick & Western Railroad, now the A. C. L. Railroad, was built through the Bennett lands in 1870-1871, passing through his enclosed fields. The Bennett homestead was cut into Coffee County in 1854 and into Atkinson County, 1918, but most of the lands remained in Ware.
Mr. Bennett was a member of the Masonic order with his membership in Waresboro Lodge, No. 217, at Waresboro, in 1867. This lodge became defunct within a few years. No further record of his membership appears.
Mr. Bennett was a private in the Indian War, serving in Capt. David J. Miller's company of Ware County militia in 1838.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett had an adopted daughter, Laura, who married James Higgs.

Richard A. Bennett was born in Bryan County in 1803, son of William Bennett and grandson of Richard Bennett, R. S., (Vol. I). The family moved to Appling County in his youth and he married Lavinia Newmans, born 1806, daughter of Thomas Newmans of Appling. She died about 1845 leaving four children, and Mr. Bennett then married Miss Tabiiha Brown, born 1810 in Bulloch County, daughter of Britton Brown and sister of William Brown of Pierce County and of Henry Brown of Bulloch and Clinch counties. There was no issue by the second wife. The four children by the first wife were:
1. Elizab. 1823, m. James S. Bennett, son of Henry. (2nd cousin).

About 1840, Mr. Bennett removed from his former home in eastern Ware, now Pierce, to the western side of Ware County and acquired land where the present town of Manor now is. His home stood where the H. S. Guthrie residence was in late years. He sold out there and removed to the 1141st district of Clinch County, about 1855. A few years later he moved to a point on the Suwannee River in Clinch County, known in late years as the W. H. Rives farm, and he settled there and cleared up a small farm, and lived there until his death. He died about 1864-1865, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. James, near the present town of Manor, while on a visit there. His wife died there a few years afterward, and both were buried in the Corbett family cemetery near Manor.
Mr. Bennett and his wife were charter members of Providence Primitive Baptist Church in 1844. He was church clerk, 1849-1859. They were members there until their deaths. Mr. Bennett was Justice of Peace in 1082nd district, Ware County, 1852-53; and in 1141st district, Clinch County, 1856-1858, and in the 1219th district Clinch County, 1860 until his death.
