LEE, ZACHARIAH.1816-1884 Zachariah Lee, son of Joshua and Martha Ford Lee (Vol. II), was born in Pulaski County, Oct. 4, 1816. He came in his youth to Lowndes County with his parents and was married there Nov. 1, 1841, to Phoebe, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Register (Voi. I). She was born in Bulloch County, August 15, 1823. Born to them were five children:CLINCH
1. Elizabethb. Oct. 3, 1842, m. Geo. A. Fiveash.
2. Marthab. Feb. 26, 1844, m. John T. Courson.
3. Rebeccab. Nov. 5, 1845, m. John A. Mikell.
4. Perry M.b. Feb. 1, 1848, in. Elizabeth Fiveash, dau. of Matthew.
5. Candacyb. April 14, 1854, m. John L. Lancaster.
After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Lee made their home with his aging parents until their deaths. Their home was in the present Prospect Church community of Clinch County (territory made into Clinch out of Ware County, 1850), on lot 488, 7th district. The other Joshua Lee heirs deeded this land to Mr. Lee, March 6, 1856, but he did not own it very long before he sold out and moved to Echols County for a short stay. He moved back to Clinch County and bought lot of land 490, 7th district, in his former home community buying it from Charles Cowart, Dec. 27, 1859; it was well improved at the time. Mr. Lee owned this and lived there until he deeded it to his son, P. M. Lee, Oct. 1, 1875. However, Mr. and Mrs. Lee continued to live there until their deaths. He died May 23, 1884, and his widow survived until Jan. 26, 1905, when she died. They were buried in the North Cemetery about a mile south of their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee were baptized into the membership of Union Primitive Baptist Church, July 7, 1849. Oct. 7, 1854, they were dismissed by letter and transferred to Bethany Church in Clinch County. On August 9, 1856, they were received by letter into BethelChurch now in eastern Echols County. On August 13, 1859, he was ordained deacon by Bethel Church. Having moved back to Clinch, they were dismissed by letter Dec. 8, 1860, by Bethel, and affiliated with Prospect Church near their home, June 1, 1861. they were members of Prospect until Dec. 1, 1883, when they were dismissed by letter. Their subsequent church membership is unknown.
Their old home-place land, lot 490 aforesaid, is now the property and home of a great-grandson, Lewis S. Lee.
