CLEMMONS, JAMES.James Clemmons was born in Lowndes County, Jan. 10, 1838, son of William E. and Lucinda Clemmons (Vol. III). He came to Clinch county in his boyhood with his parents, and was married there in 1860 to Sarah (Sallie), daughter of John and Jemima Mathis (Vol. 111) She was born May 20. 1838, in Lowndes County, and died at her home in Union County, Fla., Jan. 8, 1912. Born to them were four children, viz:

He was a private in Co "G", 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Capt. John R. O'Steen commanding. This company was made up of Clinch county men and was mustered in at Homerville in 1862.
After the war, James Clemmons and family continued to live in Clinch county until 1878 when they removed to Union County, Fla. He homesteaded land and cleared up a farm and lived near Lake Butler until his death, Nov. 30, 1913.
Mrs. Clemmons was baptized into Prospect Primitive Baptist Church, Mar. 10, 1867, and was dismissed by letter June 8, 1878, when they moved to Florida. Her church record there not traced.

CLEMMONS, WILLIAM E.William E. Clemmons was born in this state in 1805. So far, nothing has been learned as to his place of birth or parentage. His wife was named Lucinda Akins before marriage-, she was born May 15, 1808, in this state. Nothing has been learned as to her place of birth or parentage. They were married apparently in Florida about 1829 since it appears he was the head of a family there in the 1830 census. To Wm. E. and Lucinda were born twelve children, viz:

Wm. E. Clemmons served in the Indian War in Capt. Levi. J. Knight's company of Lowndes County militia in 1833, and also served periods of enlistment in other companies during the war which lasted several years.Mr. and Mrs. Clemmons lived in Hamilton County, Florida, until their first two children (above) were born, then moved to Lowndes County, Georgia, and settled in the eastern part. Later lie moved a few miles eastward and located in Ware County. He was living in Ware when Clinch County was formed in 1850, and was cut into the new county. He was living at the time in the portion of the county now the DuPont district. He died there about 1858.
The widow and minor children continued to live in Clinch County until about 1871 when they removed to the vicinity of Lake Butler, Florida. Moving at the same time were all the married chidren except Mrs. Bennett. Mrs. Clemmons died in Union County, Fla., Oct. 4. 1892, and was buried at Mt. Zion Church, Swift Creek Cemetery. near Lake Butler, She was a member of the Primitive Baptist faith, and was baptized into Prospect Church in Clinch County, Feb. 12, 1859;- she was dismissed by letter July 8, 1871, when she moved away.
