General:
AKINS, JOHN J.1832-1864 John J. Akins, a Confederate casualty from Berrien County, was born in Lowndes County in 1832, a son of William Green Akins (Vol. I). He was married in 1851 to Wincy Mullis, born in N. C., in 1836, a daughter of Blackstone Mullis (Vol. I). They had five children, viz:BERRIEN

5. Eliasb. 1861. m. Phoebe Avera, dau. of B. W.
Mr. Akins lived on his father's farm and engaged in farming until be volunteered in the Confederate Army, Aug. 28, 1862, in Co. "I", 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment. He was captured in battle, August, 1864, and supposedly died in prison as he never returned home. Mrs. Akins left a widow, kept the home together and managed to rear the children to maturity. She died at he home of her son:, Rev. Andrew J. Akins, in Berrien county about 1905; she was buried in what is now a discarded graveyard and cultivated over in a field on the farm of the late Sam W. Watson about three miles east of Nashville. (Authority for place of burial: W. Henry Griffin, Berrien County historian, deceased).
