LOWNDES
WILLIAM REGISTER, son of John Register, R.S., and brother to Samuel Register, 1786-1869, was born in Duplin, now Sampson County, North Carolina, in 1777, and died at his home in Lowndes County, Georgia., in 1848. He came to Bulloch County, Georgia, with his parents and was married there October 20, 1808, to Ricy Johnson, born about 1785. They had only one child that can be remembered by descendants: Samuel Register, born 1812, married Rebecca C. Dowling, daughter of Dennis Dowling of Lowndes County.
Little can be learned at this time concerning William and Ricy Register. The records show that William Register and his wife were both baptized into Union Church August 12, 1837 and that she died a member sometime in 1840-1841 (she was living in 1840 but dead in April, 1841). The date of her death is not shown on the church roll. Her husband was dismissed by letter April 10, 1841, to join in organizing a new church nearer his home and which became Wayfare Church. Mr. Register died in 1848 and became the first person to be buried at Wayfare Church. His wife is buried at Union Church. Both graves are unmarked. Mr. Register lived in present Naylor district of Lowndes County.
Note: It is very likely that there were other children than Samuel, named above. The 1830 Census shows three girls and three boys in the family at that time; the 1840 Census shows one girl and one boy. These other children, if any, probably moved to Florida as there seems to be nobody in this section that knows of any children except the son, Samuel named above.
