He was born in Bulloch County about 1805; names of his parents not yet ascertained. He married Malissie Rouse, daughter of Martha Rouse who became the wife of Jonathan Sirmans (Vol.Ill). She was born in 1809 in Bulloch County. Born to Clayton and Malissie Jones were three children, viz:

1. Harrietb. 1829, m. William M. Avera (Vol. III).
2. Irwinb. 1830, m. Jemima Griffin, dau. of James (Vol. 1)
3. Henryb. 1834, m. Elizabeth Ann Griner, Jan. 25, 1858, dau. of Daniel.
(Note: The marriage license of Henry and wife gives her name as Elizabeth Ann, but she was called Polly Ann. After Henry's death in the Confederate Army, she married Micajah Paulk, Jr., in 1866).
Clayton Jones was living in Capt. Bryan's district (451st) of Ware County in the time of the 1827 land lottery. The district in those days embraced all of the 7th and 8th land districts, the 7th now being mostly in Clinch County. Soon after, and before 1830, he had moved further westward and located in Lowndes on the west side of the Alapaha River in present Berrien County. He died there about 1835. His widow married Harmon Gaskins (Vol.11), and had further issue. She died 1864.
