LOWNDES
Henry Blair, first Clerk of Court in Lowndes County was born in 1803 in Screven County, son of William Blair (Vol. 1). He came as a young unmarried man with his parents to Irwin County, 1825, settling in the portion made a few months later into Lowndes County. At the first election for county officers he was elected Clerk of the Superior and Inferior Courts. He was married in 1835 to Miss Lorena Beasley, born 1813 in Bulloch County, daughter of Elijah Beasley and his wife Rebecca Burnett, who moved from Bulloch and lived in present Brooks County. Born to them wore six children, viz:

Mr. Blair served as Clerk of the courts, 1826-29; he also served as Sheriff, 1832-34, and as Representative, 1833. In the formalion of Lowndes County he was named by legislative resolution approved December, 1825, as one of the commissioners to fix upon the countysite for the new County of Lowndes.
He was also active in the state militia for several years. He served as Captain of the 660th district, 1830-1834, Colonel of the 81st Regiment 1834-1838, and Captain of the same (660) disbict, 1840 until his removal to Florida. He moved in 1846-47 to Hamilton County, Florida, and settled near Jennings, and continued living there until his death at the age of 88 years. His wife survived a few years and died at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Williams, in Madison County, Fla. He was buried in a family cemetery in front of his home, while she was buried at Hickory Grove M.E. Church, Madison County. He was Justice of Peace in Hamilton County, 1853-57 and 1862-1867.
Mr. Blair and his wife were members of the Methodist Protestant Church, and he was ordained to its ministry about the time he removed to Florida, and he did a good -deal of local church work in his community and county for a number of years.

BLAIR, WILLIAM.William Blair, a Revolutionary patriot, was born in northern Ireland about 1735-40, a son of James Blair. The latter with his family emigrated to the province of Georgia in 1770 and settled at old Queensboro, now the site of Louisville, Ga., Jefferson County, William Blair was married at Jerusalem Church, Ebenezer, Effingham County, Oct. 26, 1771, to Sibbiah Earl, a daughter of John Earl who had removed in 1760 to the province from North Carolina. William and Sibbiah had five known children:

William Blair, the elder, before the Revolution, lived in what is now Burke County where he was County Surveyor for a few years. He served in the war under Col. Francis Pugh, and died during the latter part of the war, probably from exposure or other hardship and suffering caused by his war service. Bounty land was granted Feb. 10, 1784, to his heirs, by the State of Georgia. Mrs. Sibbiah Blair furnished supplies to the Revolutionary cause, and her descendants are eligible to membership in the Daughters of American Revolution through her service.

BLANTON, DAVID.David Blanton, the progenitor of the Blantons of Wiregrass Georgia and South Florida, was born in Sampson County, N.C., March 9, 1791, and was a son of Joshua Blanton and his wife, Mary Alderman, of old Duplin County, now Sampson County. He was married Dec. 10, 1811, to Nancy Goff, born March 9, 1792, in Duplin County. To them were born ten children, viz:

In 1832, Mr. Blanton moved with his family from Sampson County, N.C., to Lowndes County and settled on lands now in the city of Quitman, Ga. His home was just a few blocks west of where the Brooks County Court-house now stands. There he cleared up a large plantation and lived until his death four years later, Jan. 1, 1837. He was survived by his wife and ten children. The oldest son, James A. Blanton, applied for administration of the estate Jan. 17, 1839, and administered the estate.
Mr. and Mrs. Blanton were members of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church, and he died a member. She transferred her membership to Bethlehem Church in present Brooks County, in November 1844. In her later years she went to live with her youngest son, John Newton Blanton, in present Lowndes, and transferred her membership in 1856 to Antioch Church in Echols County. On Feb. 23, 1861, she was received into Unity Church in Lowndes County, by letter from Antioch Church, and died a member there, about 1870.

BLANTON, EDMOND.1815-1878 LOWNDES
Edmond Blanton, a prominent citizen of Lowndes County in his day, was born in Sampson County, N. C., August 31, 1815, a son of David and Nancy Goff Blanton, When Edmond was seventeen years old his parents removed to Lowndes County, Ga., and settled where the city of Quitman now is in Brooks County. The elder Blanton died there Jan. 1, 1837. The same year, 1837, Edmond Blanton was married to Miss Dorcas Morgan, a native of Sampson County also, where she was born November, 1813. She was a grand-daughter of Isaac Newton, R. S. She died May 5, 1857, at their home in Lowndes County, Born by her were eleven children, viz:

Mr. Blanton's second wife was Elizabeth Lightsey, born 1830, in Barnwell District, S. C., daughter of Samuel Lightsey (Vol. I). By her eight children were born:

Following his first marriage Mr. Blanton continued to live in that portion of Lowndes cut into Brooks in 1858, until 1852, when he moved to the 661st (Naylor) district of Lowndes, where he bought lands and soon had a large plantation. He lived there until his death, August 21, 1878. He and his wives were buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Lowndes County.
Mr. Blanton and his wife, Dorcas, were members of the Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Blanton united with Bethlehem Church in present Brooks County, July 8, 1843, by letter from Moore's Creek Church, New Hanover County, N. C. He united With the same church Sept. 12, 1841, and was baptized.On May 7, 1847, he was ordained to the deaconship by Bethlehem Church. He served as a deacon until he and his wife were dismissed by letter January, 1852. On Jan. 24, 1852, he and his wife were received by letter into Unity Church near their new home, and he served as a deacon there until his death. She also died a member.
The will of Edmond Blanton, dated Jan. 5, 1878, was probated in October, 1878. He bequeathed to his wife, Elizabeth, his homeplace consisting of parts of Lots 294 and 305, 11th district Lowndes County, and all his personal estate. His other lands were bequeathed to his children named above. His brother, John Newton Blanton, was named as executor of the will.
