Shadrack Mills was born March 26, 1816, in Effingham County, a son of F. J. and Patsy Mills (Vol. I), His early life was spent in Effingham and Ware counties. He was married May 14, 1849, to Miss Mary (Pollie) Sears, born Aug. 31, 1828, daughter of Harrison Sears. She died in 1907. To her and her husband were born nine children, viz:

2. Harrietb. Jan. 30, 1852, m. John Waldron.
3. Mary Annb. May 3, 1855, m. John Marshall Johns.
4. Shadrackb. Apr. 30, 1857, m. Victoria Reynolds.
5. F. Jacksonb. Apr. 26, 1859, m. Arizona Waldron, dau. of G. W. S.
6. James Harrisonb. May 29, 1861, m. Mary Joyner.
7. Rebecca Leeb. Sept. 12. 1863, m. H. C. Waldron, son of G.W.S.
8. Pollie A.b. March 4, 1866, m, Will "Buck" Joyner.
9. Charityb. Apr. 5, 1872, m. John C. Joyner.
Mr. Mills served as 2nd Lieut. of the militia, 586th district of Ware County. 1835-1837. He served in the Indian War in 1840 as a private in Capt. John S. Henderson's company of Ware County militia.
Shadrach Mills lived in the upper part of the 7th land district of Ware County, and was cut out of Ware into Clinch County in its formation in 1850, and out of Clinch into Coffee (now Atkinson) County in 1854. His home was in the present Axson district of Atkinson County. He sold out about 1868, and moved to Columbia County, Florida, where he settled in the northern part of the county near Benton. He lived there until death about 1890. His wife survived until 1907 when she died. He was buried at Corinth Church, while his wife was buried at Hopewell Church, both in Columbia County.
