General DeLoach was the son of Abraham DeLoach and Elizabeth Rowe. General said his name was General DeLoach and that he had never been called by any other name. He was then asked what his middle name was and he said, "General." He then stated his name was General General DeLoach (from the mouth of his grandson William Riley DeLoach, son of Ebenezer DeLoach).
The publication, "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" states that "The Valdosta Times" published that General DeLoach was 87 years old at the time of death, which was 2 March 1884. That would make him born about 1797. This same date comes up on the bottom of the marriage document to the right.
General DeLoach was married three times. He married Rebecca Durrence on 9 May 1825, Mrs. Dorcas Smith on 14 June 1855, and Sarah Bohannon on 30 May 1857. The first two marriages ended with the death of the wives. At the time of his death, it was reported he had twenty four children. Thirteen of these children are reported here. General and Rebecca had the following: Henry DeLoach (b. 1827); Sarah DeLoach Bohannon (b. 1830); Luraney DeLoach Kelly (b. 1832); Nancy DeLoach Daniels & then Carter (b. 1834); Mary Ann DeLoach Hunter (and B. 1836); Abraham DeLoach (b. 1837); Rowan DeLoach (b. 1839); General DeLoach (b. 1841). With his wife Sarah Bohannon, General had the following children: Ebenezer D. DeLoach (b. 1860); Hayne "Haney" DeLoach (b.1862); Fannie DeLoach (b. 1864); Sarah Jane DeLoach (b. 1865); General DeLoach (b. 1867); and Eliza (Elizabeth) DeLoach (b. 1871).
General DeLoach died on his farm near Statenville, Georgia, on 2 March 1884.

CREWS, ARCHIBALD G.
1819-1905 CHARLTON(GA) BAKER (FL)
Archibald Graham Crews was born in Camden County, Georgia, in February of 1819. His parents, Rodger (Roger) and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Crews, moved from Colleton District, South Carolina, around 1816, with other family members; Alexander, Stephen, Micajah and Joseph Crews. Rodger Crews was a participant in the 1821 Georgia Land Lottery and drew land in Henry County. He is listed on the 1830 Duval County, Florida, census, and as a resident of East Florida on January 3, 1832, Rodger Crews endorsed a memorial for the reappointment of Judge Smith.
At age 18, Archibald, known as Graham, enlisted as a private in Captain Lewis Bailey's First Regiment of Florida Mounted Volunteers. The company was mustered in at Harts Road, Jacksonville, Florida, on July 22, 1837, and was discharged in Jacksonville on January 1, 1838. The muster roll shows that Graham lost his musket and that "the company were effectually mounted on their own horses during the whole period"; travelling 100 miles to the point of rendezvous and 100 miles back home. On December 5, 1892, he received a soldier's pension for his Indian War service. Graham was described in his pension application as having black hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion at the time of his service.
On February 26, 1850, in Nassau County, Florida Graham Crews married Honor Civility Bradley born in January of 1835, to Henry and Honor C. Bradley. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Josiah Lewis and attended by the brother of Honor, John H. Bradley. After marriage, Graham continued his occupation as a farmer and lived in Charlton County, Georgia, near his widowed mother, Elizabeth, and several of his siblings. (Elizabeth (Mitchell) Crews died before 1860.)
Archibald Graham and Honor Crews had the following children, a born in Charlton County:
1. Lucy Lucindab. 8/26/1851, m. James Madison Stokes, 1870, d. 1/6/1911. Charlton, son of Henry. Bur. Boones Creek Cem.

In 1882, Graham and Honor purchased a farm in Macclenny, Florida, where they lived until his death on July 12, 1905. Honor continued to live in Macclenny with her son, James McDonald Crews, until her death on March 22, 1913. Graham Crews has a marked grave in the Emmaus Cemetery in Charlton County, Georgia. Honor has no marker, but is thought to be buried near Graham.
Honor C. (Bradley) Crews was granted a widow's pension on June 20,1906. Several affidavits in this file were given by family members. A statement was also given by D. L. Rowe, who attended the wedding of Graham and Honor.
The daughter, Honor Civility Crews, had one son, Barney Crews, who was born in November 1895. He lived with his grandparents until Graham's death in 1905; then he and his grandmother lived with the son, James McDonald Crews. Bamey has not been located after the 1910 Baker County, Florida census, and is believed to have died before the age of 21.

Stephen Crews
Stephen was born in the Beaufort District of South Carolna during 1795. He has been listed as a son of Alexander Crews by his 1st wife, whose name is currently unknown. There is an item of note in Judge Huxford's personal notes for Stephen that states he was a first cousin to Micajah Crews. This author assumes that the cousin is the elder Micajah of Camden that passed away in 1823. The only other Micajah during this period is a documented son of Alexander b. 1810. The above note casts some doubt of the true identity of Stephen's parents. This elder MIcajah is likely a brother to Alexander as there is a record of Micajah and Alexander jointly acquiring 1000 acres of land on 8/25/1809 on Black Creek of Saltketcher River in the Colleton District.
What IS known is Stephen is a brother to William Crews (abt 1797) as he is a witness for Stephen's widow, Elizabeth on the Pension papers she filed. The brothers married sisters; Nancy and Sarah Bradley of Beaufort, SC..
Stephen spent his boyhood and teenage years in South Carolina. As an adult, his physical appearance was described by 2nd wife Elizabeth as "fair complexion, blue eyes, about 6 feet tall, square build".
During the year 1813, an 18 year old Stephen was "drafted" and served a six month tour of duty with Captain Haywood's Company of the South Carolina militia along the Savannah River at Sisters Ferry, SC, during the War of 1812. He was honorably discharged at the same location during the same year.
About two years later, a now 20 year old Stephen marries for the first time to Nancy Bradley (though his 2nd wife stated her name was Mary Bradley on her widow's pension request) on 30 Nov 1815 in South Carolina. The couple may have had a least one female child as result of this marriage.
Based on the findings within the 1820 US Census for Camden County Georgia, there are three unidentified female children residing in Alexander's home. There is one female age 10-14; which is Sophia. Then, there are four females under ten years of age. One of these girls is Lavina. The remaining three have never been identified to the best of my knowledge. One could speculate these girls are Alexander and Lucy's and/or Stephen's from his prior or even both marriages (William did not marry till 1820 and Alex Junior was just 18). We may never know. We do know by the time the 1830 census rolls around, there are no females in the Alexander Crews' home other than Alexander's wife, Lucy. The birth of this female child may also explain Nancy's early (1816) demise so soon after her and Stephen's marriage.
Sometime after the death of Nancy, perhaps the same year, Alexander and other family members relocate down to Camden County, Georgia, though it is Stephen that first appears in Camden County records as a "surveyor" during 1816
It was in Camden where Stephen met and married Elizabeth Larrisey, likely in 1817. The couple were married by a Justice of the Peace in Camden; a Mr. Robert Paxon. Elizabeth had a difficult time remembering the year of her marriage as she first states 1813/14 and later 1815 within the same Pension document after Stephen's death.
Folks Huxford states in Volume I of his Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia book that "Elizabeth was born in 1800 and her parents were born in Ireland". However, Elizabeth's monument in the Boney Bluff Cemetery reads 1797, a date that is also reflected in her Widow's Pension application as well as the 1860 US Census for Echols county. The 1880 Census for Echols does state both Ms Larrisey Crews' parents were born in Ireland
Stephen is enumerated next door to Alexander and another Crews relation, Roger, within the 1820 census for Camden. This is the area that was later cut into Wayne County, Georgia.
Note: For some reason, Stephen's enumeration data is incomplete. The only "mark" within Stephen's family line was that of a male child less than 10 (this would be 1st born, William B). The previous statement is in conflict with POWG Vol. I as Huxford states Mary was the oldest. We can not accertain the validity of this statement without a legible copy of the entry for Stephen within 1820 census and to date, there appears to be none.
Stephen and Elizabeth were the parents of 10 children the first 6 born in Camden and the younger 4 born in Ware (now Echols):
1. William B. b. 11 Apr 1818 d. 23 Apr 1898, married Martha North 1840 in Ware County, GA
2 Mary b. 1820 d. 11 Sep 1884, married Benjamin L. Crews, a cousin
3. Stephen L. b. Mar 1822, d. 10 May 1908, married, Clarrisy Collier, 1856 in Hamilton County, FL
4. Nancy b 1824, d. 2 Jan 1880, m. James North
5. Joseph L. b. 1825, d. 6 Oct 1858, m. 1) Nancy North, daughter of James, Sr. 2) Lydia Crews dau. of William, 1
Jan, 1853 (1st cousins)
6. John L.b. 1826, d, 1896, m. Maria Sears, daughter of Harrison.
7. Micajahb. 1835, enumerated in Clinch 1860.
8. Carolineb. 1839, m. James T. Padgett of Echols County.
9. Mosesb. 1842, died as a POW 1865.
10 Jamesb. 24 Aug 1847, m. Lucy Burnett, dau. of John. Moved to New Smyrna, Florida.
Stephen appears as a Juror in Camden County Inferior Court for the June Term of 1823. Sometime between this date and the 1930 Census for Ware County, Stephen and Brother William relocated to Ware County, Georgia in the area that is now eastern Echols County. As previously mentioned, Stephen appears in the Ware County, Georgia census for 1830 along with brother William and an Edward Crews.
During this period in history, the Florida Indians often crossed into South Georgia conducting raids on property that sometimes result in the deaths of the White settlers in and around the Georgia/Florida line. Soon, the United States declared war once again on the natives and the Second Indian War, also known as the Florida War began (1835). Stephen and eight of his kin were enrolled June 22, 1836 in Columbia County by Capt. North's Company for a six month hitch. Stephen and even more Crews spent most all of 1837 in the militia serving 2 consecutive 6 month terms starting 21 Jan 1837 and being discharged 18 Dec 1837. This unit was again under Capt William B. North of the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade of East Florida Mounted Volunteers, commanded by Col William J. Mills and was ordered into service by Maj General Thomas Jesup. Next, Stephen served in Capt. W. B. North's company of East Florida Mounted Militia, ordered into service of the United States by Bt. Brig. General Taylor from the 12th day of July, 1838 to the 12th day of January, 1839. The Florida War would rage on until 1842 when hostilities ceased (for a while, anyway). But Stephen's participation ended in with his discharge at Camp Gilmer in 1839. He returns home to his family and a life of farming.
Stephen appears in the 1840 Federal Census in Ware County. This section of Ware county was cut into Echols in 1850.
Served as a private in Captain North's Militia Company for a 25 day period between 5 Apr 1842 to 20 Apr 1842. This mounted militia patroled the area around Blount's Ferry near the end of the 2nd Florida War.
The couple lived near the Bethel, sometimes called Boney Bluff, Primitive Baptist Church. Stephen and Elizabeth Crews were among the founding members of this church beginning with an organizational meeting at his home on 30 Sep 1843. He was Received by Letter on this date and wife Elizabeth baptized the next day during 1 Oct 1843. Stephen was ordained a deacon of the church on December 1, 1843. Stephen was appointed Church Treasurer 12 Feb 1844. Stephen was continually active within the church minutes from 1844 until a final passage in December of 1846 "The sister church, Salem, was disappointed that Bro. Stephen Crews was sick and unable to go". No additional mentions of Stephen appear in the church minutes after this date. It appears Stephen never recovered from his noted sickness.
Stephen's marker in Bethel Church Cemetery records the date of his death as 23 Dec 1846. He did not live to see his youngest child, James (24 Aug 1847).
Elizabeth survived Stephen by many years as she is found in the 1850 Census in Ware County along with children; Joseph 25, Stephen 17, Micajah 15, Caroline 11, Moses 8, and James 3.
She is found within the 1860 Census for Echols County, Georgia along with children Caroline age 20 listed as a Seamstress, Moses age 16 Ploughman, and James 13.
Beginning in Sept. 1871, soon after the Act of 1871 passed, Elizabeth began filing for a Widow's Pension from Stephen's participation in the War of 1812. She continually filed for a pension through 1879. All her attempts were unsuccessful as Stephen could not be found on any Muster Rolls and she could not recall the actual date of her marriage to Stephen, nor had any paperwork supporting her claims.
Elizabeth is once again found in Echols during the 1880 as the Head of the Household with (grand)daughter Nancy Seares (Sears) and (great)granddaughter Emily Seares (Sears).
Elizabeth lived close to 40 years after the death of Stephen and passed away during 1885.
