MONK, WilliamWILLIAM MONK, a Revolutionary soldier, and ancestor of a large family connection in Wiregrass Georgia, was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina, in 1763, and died at his home in Bulloch County, Georgia, about 1825. He was a son of Malon (sometimes spelled Menon and Menin) Monk. The family moved to Burke County, Georgia, in 1777-1778, and later to Bulloch County. Richard Monk, brother of William, was appointed administrator of their father's estate in Bulloch County, November 10, 1808. William Monk married Jerushia Parrish, born 1773, sister of Henry Parrish, Sr. To them were born the following children (list that follows shows county where most of each one's descendants now live) :

William Monk was a Revolutionary soldier and served as a private in the Georgia Line (p. 388, Knight's Roster of the Revolution). Mrs. Maude E. Garrison of Adel, became the first descendant to join the D.A.R. on this line. She is a member of John Floyd Chapter, D.A.R. and her National Number is 378429.
A few years after William Monk's death his widow and unmarried children moved to Lowndes County, also others of the family connection. She is shown in the 1830 Census of Lowndes as the head of a family consisting of self, three sons and two daughters. In 1850 she was living with her daughter, Rhoda and her husband, James Mathis in Lowndes County (territory now in Berrien County). She died about 1857 and was buried at Union Church.

MONK, WILLIAMWilliam Monk, a son of William and Jerushia (Parrish) Monk (see Vol. 1), was born in Bulloch County May 18, 1809, and died at his home in Worth County, September 24, 1855. He was married in 1828 to Miss Ailey Dampier, a daughter of John Dampier (see Vol. 1). She was born May 14, 1807 and died at her home in Worth County January 24,1886. To Mr. and Mrs. Monk were born:

William Monk was a private in the Indian War in Capt. Hamilton W. Sharpe's volunteer troop of Lowndes County militia. Soon after marriage, he and his wife moved to the Seventh land district of what was then Irwin County, acquired lands there, built a home, cleared up a large farm, and lived there until his death. A year before he died, he was cut into the new County of Worth out of Irwin.
Mr. and Mrs. Monk are buried on their old home place, five miles south of the present town of Poulan. The property is now owned by a grandson, Judge C. W. Monk of Sylvester.
