George W. Waldron lived in that portion of Ware that was made into Pierce County in 1858. He served as Tax Collector and Receiver of Tax Returns (offices combined), 1855-5. Upon the creation of Pierce county in December, 1858, and the laying out of Blackshear, the county-site, he bought town lots in the new town and moved there. The 1860 Census of Pierce County shows his occupation as a merchant.
Mr. Waldron enlisted in the Confederate Army, in Co. "A", 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, a Pierce county company, May 18, 1862, with the rank of private. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant, June 18, 1862; to 2nd Lieutenant, Dec. 31, 1862; to 1st Lieutenant, May 26, 1863, and Captain, July 3, 1863, serving until the close of the war. Soon after the war he moved with his family to Clinch county and settled in the 1219th (Fargo) district where they lived two or three years, then moving to the 1141st district near Ramah Church, where he lived on a farm on lot of land 238, 12th land district, owned by his father. He served as Justice of the Peace in the 1219th district, 1866-1869, and was a Jury Commissioner of Clinch county, 1870-72. About 1875 he moved to Columbia County, Fla., near Lake City, and lived there until his death.
REGIMENTAL INITIAL MILITARY ASSIGNMENT
The 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry was organized in the late spring of 1862 at Savannah. Most of the 50th Georgia regiment's ranks were filled with men from the South Georgia area. The regiment participated in more than 45 engagements during the war. The original commander was Colonel William R. Manning. The 50th Georgia regiment began as part of the Military Organization, Department of Georgia, Confederate States of America on 30 April 1862 under the following command structure: Major General J.C. Pemberton Commander of South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Brigadier General Alexander Lawton Commander of Georgia, assigned to Brigadier General Hugh W. Mercer 2nd Brigade. In this Brigade along with the 50th Georgia Volunteers were the 1st, 13th, 25th, 26th, 29th, Georgia Infantries, 3rd Georgia Cavalry, 8th and 11th Georgia Battalions, Savannah Guards, Chatham Light Horsemen, Effingham Hussars, Hardwich Mounted Rifles, Georgia Artillery Company D, and Stanton Hill Artillery. (OR I-12, pg 487) In June and July the Brigade continued to add regiments. (OR I-12, pg 576, 592)
At the surrender at Appomatax Courthouse, the final organizational report of 10 April 1865 shows the 50th Georgia Infantry commanded by Captain George W. Waldron and Lieutenant Hillary W. Cason. The regiment was assigned to the Army of Northern Virginia commanded by Robert E. Lee, in the 1st Army Corps of Lieutenant General James Longstreet, in Kershaw's division co-commanded by Major General Joseph B Kershaw and Lieutenant General Richard Ewell, and in Simms Brigade commanded by Brigadier General James P. Simms. (OR I, 46, pg 1267) Very few members of the original regiment were still with it when it surrendered. Volume V of the Southern Historic Papers , Appomattox Roster, lists only the officers of the regiment who surrendered. The regiments Surgeon H.J. Parramore, Assistant Surgeon William H. Price, Lieutenant Hillary W. Cason and 2nd Lieutenant Aaron Dowling of Company A are named. Joseph Crute lists 1 captain, 2 lieutenants, 2 surgeons, and 25 enlisted men remaining. Volume XV of the "Southern Historical Society Papers" contains the "Paroles of the Army of Northern Virginia The enlisted men of the 50th GA are listed on page 183.

Mr. Waldron lived in the 584th militia district of old Ware County, in the portion made into Pierce County in 1858. He served in the Indian War in two enlistments. He was. lieutenant in Capt. Simon Howard's company of Georgia militia, Sept. 10, 1836, and 2nd Corporal in Capt. James A. Sweat's company of Ware County militia, in 1838. He removed to Columbia County, Fla., in 1844, and settled near Suwannee Shoals, where he lived until his death May 24, 1895. He and his wife Catherine were buried at Corinth Methodist Church in Columbia county.
He applied for an Indian War pension Aug. 22, 1892, and stated that he was first married as above stated, and that his first wifeHenrietta died in 1838, and that he then married Catherine Stewart, and that she died as above stated. The pension was granted. His widow, Rebecca, applied May 8, 1911, for an Indian War widow's pension, and stated she was first married to ( ------ ) Raulerson, and then in 1861 to Geo. W. S. Waldron. Her pension was granted.
NOTE: (1) Some discrepancies appear in the record as to the marriages. Geo. W. S. Waldron is referred to in Jacob Raulerson's will as his son-in-law, and was given a legacy of $10.00. In the record as printed in the sketch of Jacob Raulerson his daughter Henrietta is shown as the wife of Abraham N. Knight. The latter was referred to in the Raulerson will as an "heir" along with others of his sons-in-law and children. In the Census of 1850 Knight's wife's name is shown as Harriet and by that name administered his estate in 1866. The Census indicates she was born in 1832 instead of 1818. Descendants say that she was Jacob Raulerson's daughter. Waldron in his pension application, testified that Henrietta (by which name she is shown in the old Jacob Raulerson Bible record) died in 1838.
(2) In her pension papers the third wife testified she and Geo. W. S. Waldron were married in 1861 by Peter Hays. However, the second wife did not die until June 10, 1874, according to his pension application. The 1870 Census shows that he and his wife Katie (Catherine) were living together.
Corinth Methodist Church, Columbia Co., FL records indicate that he was buried here, but no stone has been found.
