in June on the brigantine " John and William," Thomas Corbett, Master, and that she was captured by the Spanish privateer "St. Gabriel, the Conqueror," and sent to Hispaniola, but was retaken and sent to St. Simons, and that the brigantine belonged to Rev. On this the 19 day of September 1833 before me Charles Henry an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County personally appeared Timothy Hatcher a resident of New Hanover County in the State of North Carolina aged ninety three years the 15th Sept 1833 who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress dated June 7th 1832.
That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated.
1st In a company of Bladen militia in August 1780 and served two months under Col. Thomas Brown, Lieut Col Richardson, Major Anders, Captain Council, his other officers he forgets in an expedition against the Tories, that when he entered this service he resided in Bladen County N.C.; that he was drafted; that he was in no battle but in their marches on one occasion the cavalry being in advance fired upon a body of tories and killed one; that he was frequently detached against the tories and in his excursions took many of them prisoners; that his marches were to Little Pedee up and down on both sides and on towards Big Pedee to a place called Beauty spot thence up Big Pedee on the East side, thence to Drowning Creek to Lumberton Thence to Elizabeth Town and discharged, that the regular officer, he knew were Robert Raiford and a Captain who came to our company whose name the applicant cannot recollect; that he served with no continental regiments or companies That he has no documentary evidence and kn
2ndly In November 1780 he was called out by Col Brown to go on an expedition against the enemy both British and Tories as it had become dangerous time, and served thirty one days being under the command of Col Brown and sent frequently in detachments of four or five men to make prisoners of the tories and on one occasion captured six of them that he was a volunteer; that his marches were nearly the same as in his first tour; that he has no documentary evidence and knows of no person by whom he can prove this service
3rdly In a company of Duplin militia under Captain William Vann sometimes under Col James Kenan & Col Thomas Bludworth in the fall of 1781 and served two months as a private his other officers, he forgets, that he served in Duplin now Sampson county when he entered this service, that he was a volunteer and in the cavalry, that he was in a skirmish with the tories on South River at Bennett Smiths where one David Tucker was wounded in the thigh, that he marched over into Bladen county and up South River & crossed over into Duplin thence up the Coharas thence on towards the North East and across it at Limestone bridge and under landing the tories were dispersed that had collected on Muddy creek he marched back to the Cross Roads in Duplin and discharged, and has no documentary evidence but think he can prove this service by William Robinson of Sampson Cty.
4thly In a company of Duplin Cavalry under Captain William Vann his other officers he forgets but occasionally fell in with Col Kenan in December 1781 and served one month as a private, that he was a volunteer, that he marched up South River & one Captain Scarborough the Commander of a band of tories, thence down into New Hanover county. Thence back into Duplin and discharged, that he has no documentary evidence and knows of no person by whom he can prove this service except that William Robinson of Sampson can prove that he was in this service

3. When first called into service I was living in Bladen County N. C. During the war I removed from Bladen into Duplin now Sampson. Since the Revolutionary War Ive lived in Duplin (now Sampson) and New Hanover Counties and I now live in New Hanover County NC.
4. First drafted, afterwards volunteered
5. The only regular officers who were with the troops where I served were Capt Robert Raiford and a Captain whose name I cant recollect; I recollect no continental regiments; The militia regiments I remember were Col Brown's and Col Kenan's the general circumstances of my service is related above
6 I don't recollect to have recd but one written discharge that was given me by Col Brown at the termination of my Thirty one days service which I kept a considerable length of time but cant find it now among my papers

That he performed occasional short tours of duty besides those above set forth but were only for a few days at a time.
He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State.
