The children of Old Sam Crews is speculation at this point in my research 7/28/22. They are based on proximity of other Crews heads-of-households in 1810 St Bartholomews, Colleton County, SC Census. Edward, Roger, and Joseph appear to live on the same or adjoining property as Sam. The details can be found on page 609 of the 1810 Census. Alexander is also on the same page appearing to live close to the others.

Notes
General:
Samuel Crews is born in Clinch County, Georgia, likely in the 12th District, on November of 1870. He is the son of Samuel Crews and Morgiana "Annie" Waldron. .
Samuel was not enumerated during the 1870 census, but father Samuel, mother Annie, his only living sibling, Sarah, and aunt, Julia Crews were included in the Crews household. Morgiana (Annie) was approximately 5 months pregnant with Samuel.
His father, also Samuel, passed away when the younger Samuel was about five years of age in 1875. Morgiana later remarried to Mr. William Combs as the 1880 census lists Samuel as living in the William Combs household in Clinch County, with his mother. Samuel is 9 years old and sister, Sarah, is age 12.
Sometime after the 1880 census was taken but before 1893, the family relocated to eastern Lowndes County. During 1893, William Combs name begins showing on the Antioch Church Meeting Minutes and he continued to be active in 1894 and 1895 in the Echols County church.
Samuel Crews is next enumerated in the 1900 US Census for Lowndes County, living in the William Combs household in Lake Park GA. The census states Samuel was born in November of 1870 in Georgia, he was 29 years old and single and is employed as farm labor.
The single status changed on December 22nd 1901. Receiving their marriage license a few days earlier, on the 18th, Samuel married Sallie Carter, in Echols County, GA. Sarah E. "Sallie" Carter is a daughter of Allen Carter and Sarah E. Corbett. The couple had two children, they are:
1. Leob. 2 Oct. 1902, Lake Park, GA m. Teeny Elizabeth Melton, dau. of David Franklin Melton and Mary Lou Ella Hines, 11 May 1932, d. 21 May, 1962 in Lake City, Florida.
2. Laurab. 28 May, 1908, Lake Park, GA, m. Earl Heilman, d. 7 Feb. 1974
However, Sallie passed away eight years later on May 12, 1909, leaving Samuel to raise the two young children, ages six and one.
Samuel now age 39 is listed as the head of household in the 1910 Census. He is in Lake Park (Lowndes) GA with son Leo age 7 and daughter Laura, 1 month short of her 2nd birthday. This census indicates his occupation is a "Retail Merchant," of "General Mechandise"; he owns his home, and he is literate. Samuel's son Leo informed his sons that his father owned and operated a general store located "at the fork in the road in Lake Park."
During the period of time that the 1910 census was taken, daughter Laura was taken in and raised by Sallie's brother, Wylie Carter and wife Beulah. Laura appears in both households during the 1910 census of Echols and Lowndes Counties.
Samuel remarried 17 Jul 1910 to Wealthy Louisa Herring in Lowndes County, Georgia. Louisa was from White Springs, Florida. Sam and Louisa had a child; Mallie Katrina. Mallie was born in Lake Park, Ga on October 10th, 1913, a month before Samuel passed away .
Samuel died a little more than four years after Sallie had passed away leaving the children from their marriage with no parents. The date of his death is listed as November 16, 1913.
Daughter Laura was already in good hands with the Wylie Carter family. Son Leo was taken in by Martin T. Carter Jr. and raised to maturity on "Uncle Buck's" farm in Echols.
Samuel Crews is interred in the Carter Family Cemetery next to the Sardis Baptist Church in western Echols County next to his first wife and his mother.

Subject: [CREWS-L] SC Crews

Hello Everyone,
I've recently had a phone discussion with Samuel Francis Crews III
from Columbia, SC who will be joining our group soon. His family is from
the Colleton-Beaufort(now Hampton) area of SC from which almost all the
Crews families of GA and FL are descended. His help will be a great
asset to us concerning the southern line. The scarcity of records is
still a problem in SC which keeps us from getting beyond the census of
1790.
Sam's line intersects with Margie Kwiatkowsi's line at Samuel Francis
Crews 1812-1880 married to Rachel A. Faust. Sam describes his line in
this way:
"I am Samuel Francis Crews, III (b. 1952). My father is Samuel Francis
Crews, Jr. (b. 1921) His father was Samuel Francis Crews (1879-1958).
His father was Jerry Benjamin Crews, son of Rachel Faust and Samuel
Francis Crews."
Sam explained that Jerry Benjamin Crews had a brother named Samuel
Francis that died childless of dissentery during the War of Northern
Aggression.
Margie gives hers as follows:
"My g.g.grandmother was Cynthia Maria Crews (1847-1933), I would like to
know more about her father, Samuel Francis Crews who married Rachel
Faust."
Sam also said there was an earlier Samuel Crews in the area in 1772. Sam
has a copy of a receipt given to this Samuel by Gen. Greene during the
Rev. War for a horse and a cow. The researchers on this list have
thought that John Crews1735-1820 and Nancy Collins were the head of this
line. Margie's grandmother says that Samuel Francis Crews b.1812 came
from Syracuse, NY and I have seen a reference in the SC Genealogical
Exchange Quarterly which lists a will probated in Charleston in 1704 for
a John Cruise and his wife Elizabeth. The 1790 census has six heads of
households in Bartholomew's District of Colleton Co, SC and two of these
families have children over the age of 16. Maybe some of you have more
evidence to add to this mystery. Below is a revised cemetery list of
Crews' Cemetery in Hampton Co, SC where Sam and Margie's ancestors are
buried. The Cynthia Crews Thomas below is Margie's g-g-grandmother and
Samuel F. Crews b.1812 is her g-g-g-grandfather and Sam's
g-g-grandfather.

Harriett (Raulerson) Crews filed for an Indian War widow's pension for Samuel Crews' military service during the Seminole War on August 16, 1902. Harriett's pension application was supported by documents from William C. Cobb of Sanderson, Florida, and George Reynolds of Baxter, Florida, both stating that they had served with Samuel Crews in Captain Hart's company. The application was also supported by statements of Noah Robinson of Trader's Hill, Georgia and A. N. Hogans of Welborn, Florida that they were present at the marfiage of Samuel and Harriett. Her pension # 6268 was authorized on June 27, 1902 at the rate of $8.00 per month. Harriett (Raulerson) Crews died in October of 1906 and is buried by her husband.
