Soon after marriage, Mr. Burnett acquired land in Echols County, and began farming and stock raising. For many years, he drove his beef cattle annually to Jacksonville, Florida, where he always found a ready sale. In 1915 Mr. Burnett sold his farm and timber land to his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. J. F. Hall and wife, and bought a home in the village of Howell. They lived there the remainder of their lives.
Mrs. Martha Burnett united with Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Echols County, and was baptized July 14, 1883. Her husband was received in like manner about 1908. After moving to Howell, Mr. and Mrs. Burnett united with Wayfare Church, which was much nearer to them, and they were members there at their respective deaths.
Mr. Burnett died November 5, 1935, at the age of 86 years. He and both of his wives are buried at Wayfare Church. He lived a very exemplary life as a church member and a citizen.
