CARTER, ISAAC.Isaac Carter, son of Capt. Jesse Carter (Vol. 1), was born in Tattnall County in 1816. He came with his parents to Lowndes County in his boyhood and was married there in 1842 to Miss Rachel Sirmans, daughter of Benjamin Sirmans (Vol 11). She was born in Lowndes County in 1826. Mr. and Mrs. Carter had the following children, viz:

Isaac Carter served under Capt. Samuel E. Swilley as a private in the 2nd Regiment, Florida militia, June 16 to Dec. 16, 1837, in the Indian War. He later served as 2nd Sergeant in the militia company commanded by his father, in 1838, in the same war.
The Carter home and plantation was three or four miles south of Milltown (now called Lakeland), and Mr. Carter died there in 1853, age 37 years. His widow later married John O'Bryan and had children by him. She died in 1867. She and her two husbands are buried in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery near Lakeland.

CARTER, ISAACIsaac Carter, son of Isaac Carter (1790-1854) (Vol.IV), was born May 17, 1832 in that part of Appling County later cut into Pierce County and still later into Bacon County, Georgia. He married Nancy E. Harrison, the daughter of Richard Harrison. She was born August 18, 185 1. They had the following eleven children:

Mr. Carter spent his entire life in the community where he was born other than the years he served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He enlisted October 10, 1861 serving in Company "K", 2nd Regiment, lst Brigade Georgia State Troops, until mustered out in April of 1862. He then enlisted in Company "B", 54th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, April 26, 1862. The exact date of his discharge is not known, but he was on the company records in 1863.
He was a farmer and cattleman and lived on his farm about one mile from the place of his birth.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter gave the land for a church and cemetery that today is Friendship United Methodist Church and cemetery.
Isaac Carter died in 1907 and his wife, Nancy, died April 24, 1935. Both are buried at Friendship as are several of their children and grandchildren.

CARTER, ISAAC.Isaac Carter, youngest son of Jacob Carter, and brother of George Carter (Vol.III), was born in South Carolina in 1774 according to the 1850 Census, Appling County. His wife, Lydia (maiden name unknown), was born 1770 in South Carolina. They had the following known children:

Mr. Carter was among the first settlers of Appling County, and is found there in the 1820 census. He lived there until he died about 1854. He settled on what was known in 1889 as the old Reddish place on 10-mile Creek, according to the remininscences of the late H.D. O'Quin (1815-1900). Mr. O'Quin wrote that Isaac Carter "was a great hunter".
Mrs. Carter died in May, 1850, age 80 years, according to the mortuary schedule, 1850 Appling County census.

Isaac Thomas Carter (sometimes referred to as Isaac Tommie and, in the 1900 census of Pierce County as Thomas) was born on February 14, 1874 in the part of Pierce County, Georgia that was later cut into Bacon County, Georgia. He was the first son and second child of Isaac Carter (1832-1907) and his wife Nancy (Harrison) Carter (1851-193 5) (Vol. W and lived all of his life in that county. He was married in 1902 to Ocie Taylor, also a native Georgian.
To them were born eight children:

Mr. Carter was a farmer all of his life in his home community near the Friendship Methodist Episcopal Church South (now the Friendship United Methodist Church) and about two miles from Coffee, Georgia and approximately ten miles east of Alma, Georgia. (both in present Bacon County, Georgia.)
The land for Friendship Church and the adjacent cemetery had been given by Isaac Thomas' parents, Isaac and Nancy Carter. Isaac Thomas was a faithful member of this church throughout his life and, for a number of years, served as superintendent of the church's sunday school as well as other officical positions in the church.
Isaac Thomas Carter died on February 7, 1935 and is buried in the cemetery of his horne church. His wife, Ocie (Iraylor) Carter, born on January 2,1885, survived her husband, living until October 21, 1960. She was buried beside her husband in the Friendship Cemetery.

CARTER, ISHAMIsham Carter was born November 30, 1837 in Ware County and was a son of William Carter and wife, Mary Molsy Robinson, who was a daughter of John Robinson (Vol.IV). Isham Carter's parents were married in Appling County about 1835 and, soon afterwards, moved to Ware County. In 1845, they moved back to Appling County. born in July of 1841, and was the daughter of John and Harriet Kemp Miles.
Mrs. Carter died June 14, 1886.
Isham Carter served in the CSA, and suffered the loss of an arm. After his wife's death, Mr. Carter married Mrs. Elizabeth Rachell Cauley
McQueen, the daughter of William Cauley and sister of George Henry Cauley. She was born February 13, 1853, and died September 15, 1921. She was a widow with two daughters, Viola and Carrie McQueen, when she married Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter died October 25, 1898, and he and his second wife are buried in the family cemetery a short distance behind the old home place, about one mile from Hopewell United Methodist Church, in Appling County, Georgia.
By the two marriages, nine children were born. The first five were by the first wife, and the last four by the second wife:

CARTER, ISHAM T.Isham T. Carter was born July 20, 1828, in Appling County, son of Jesse and Elizabeth Carter (Vol. I). He was brought by his parents to present Echols but then Lowndes County in his childhood, and was there married Feb. 20, 1848, to Susan E., daughter of Zachariah Fletcher (Vol. II). She was born in Lowndes County, March 13, 1831. To them were born eight children, viz:

Mr. Carter lived in Lowndes County until about 1852 wlien he moved to the new County of Clinch which had been recently created partly out of Lowndes. He was Justice of Peace of the 1058th district, Clinch County, 1854-55. In 1858, Echols County was made partly out of Clinch, and Mr. Carter's home place was put In the new county. He served as justice of peace in the 904th district, Echols County, 1864-1865, and as ex-officio justice in same district, 1868-1872. he served a two-year term, 1873-75, as a member of the Echols County Board of Commissioners. He spent his last tew years in Hamilton County. Fla,, where he died in August, 1891, testate. He was buried in a family cemetery on his home-place. His wife died in 1902 and was buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Lowndes, where her parents were buried.
