Samuel E. Register was born in Lowndes (now Berrien) County, Sept. 16, 1826, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Register (Vol. 1). He was married three times. His first marriage was on March 7, 1845, to Miss Senith Lee, daughter of Jesse and Sarah Lee of Lowndes (now Lanier) County. She was born 1820, and died July 13, 1876. By her three sons were born, viz:

1. Marionb. Sept. 30, 1848, m. Elizabeth Panish, dau. of Ansel, Jan. 10. 1869.
2. John Franklin b. Nov. 13, 1850, m. Ist. Elizabeth Connell, dau. of John Ellis Connell; 2nd. Mrs. Sarah M. Bradford, widow of John W.
3. Williamb. May 3, 1852, m. Sarah Laura Parrish, dau. of Rev. Ansel, April 2, 1874.

The second marriage was on Nov. 5, 1876, in Coffee County, to Mrs. Alary Emeline Hutto, nee Douglas, a daughter of "Dunk" Douglas of that county. She was born in 1839 and died May 5, 1892. By her four children were born, viz:

The third marriage was in Berrien County on Jan. 5, 1893, to Miss Josephine Guthrie, a daughter of Samuel Guthrie. By her two children were born, viz:

Mr. Register after marriage settled on the east side of the Alapaha River. and in the creation of Clinch out of Lowndes County in February, 1850, was annered to the latter county. Sometime in the 1850s he sold out and moved across the river into the new county of Berrien. locating between Empire Church and the river. He lived and farmed there until his death.
Samuel E. Register was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, first joining at Union Church, Feb. 11, 1854, and was baptized. A month later, on March 11, 1854, he was dismissed by letter with others, to participate in the organizing of Empire Church much nearer his home, He continued in the fellowship of Empire Church until his death.

William Seaborn Peters was born 1814 in South Carolina, son of William Peters (Vol. 1). He was married twice. His first wife was Celia (commonly called "Cenie"), a daughter of Joshua Lee (Vol. 11). She was born in 1812, in Pulaski County, and died soon after the birth of her ninth child. The children were:

The second marriage was in 1854 to Mary ("Pollie") Hughes, born 1822 in Barnwell District, S. C., daughter of Jacob Hughes (Vol. 11). The children were:

Mr. Peters was in the Indian War in 1837-38 in this section, and served as 1st corporal in Capt. Jesse Carter's company of Lowndes County militia. He served as Captain of the militia, 661st district of Lowndes County, 1847-1855. He removed to Sumter County, Fla., 1870, later he moved on to the Alafair River, Hillsborough County, thence to Fort Meade, then to the Medulla community of Polk County where he lived until his death in 1886. His death was sudden, occuring at his supper-table., His wife, Pollie, survived him until 1903 when she died at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Hicks. Mr. and Mrs. Peters were buried in Mount Enon Cemetery near Plant City, Fla. The first wife was buried at old Union Church near Lakeland, Georgia.

Mr. Peters united with Union Church Oct. 11, 1840, and his first wife, Celia, did likewise, Sept. 9, 1848, both being received through baptism. She died a member. Mr. Peters transferred his membership to Mount Enon Church in Florida, and his second wife became a member there also; they died members of that church.
Mr. Peters was a member of Butler Lodge, No. 211, F. & A. M., at old Milltown and was demitted in 1866 and became a charter member of Stockton Lodge, No, 266, at Stockton. He withdrew in 1868 for religious reasons, but was re-instated in 1869, He was a member when he removed to Florida, where his subsequent Masonic membership has not been traced.

General Notes: Husband - John Mathis


John Mathis, who for a time signed his name as John Mathis, Jr., was a son of Edmund and Unity Mathis and was born in Bulloch County in 1802. However, the 1900 Census for Suwannee County, FL indicates both John and Jemima were born in South Carolina. He moved to this section with his parents, and was married in 1827 to Jemima Lee, born 1807 in Georgia, daughter of Joshua Lee and Martha Ford Lee. To them were born nine children:

3. Nancyb. 1830, m. E. M. (miles) Harnage.

6. Sarahb: 1838, m. James Clemmons, son of Wm. E.
7. Jamesb. 1840, m. 1st. Zilpha Joyce; 2nd. Martha Brantley.

Mr. and Mrs. Mathis, after marriage lived in that portion of Lowndes now Lanier, until 1849 when they moved into what was then Ware County, and were cut into the new county of Clinch the next year, 1850. In the 1870 census for Clinch County, his land was valued at $500. His home place was on lot 441, 7th district, where he lived until 1871 when he sold out and lived with his son Ezekiel south of Dupont until shortly before his death when he went to Hamilton County, Fla., to live with his son John, Jr. He died there and was buried at Propect Church in that county.

Mr. Mathis was baptized Oct. 11,1840 into Union Primitive Baptist Church; was dismissed by letter April 10, 1841, and then became a charter member of Wayfare Church; was dismissed by letter Feb. 3, 1855, by Wayfare, and tranferred his membership to Bethany Church, where it remained until he went into the organization of Prospect Church nearer his home, Jan. 22, 1859. He was a member of Prospect until his death. No record appears of his wife's membership.

Mr. Mathis was ensign of the militia in the 442nd district of Appling County, 1822-25; Justice of the Peace, 664th district, Lowndes County, 1833-38 and Coroner of Clinch County, 1851-58 and again 1861-64. He served two enlistments in the Indian War in 1838, one under Capt. Jesse Carter and the other under Levi J. Knight."

Mr Mathis is interred in Prospect Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Hamilton County. The date of Jemima's death as well as her final resting place is unknown at this time. Both were enumerated in the home of son Ezekial in district 1224 in Clinch County, GA but no records after this 1870 US Census can be located,
